Judge denies request to extend voting in Bethlehem
A Northampton County judge has denied a request to keep the Banana Factory polls open until 10 p.m. in Bethlehem due to overwhelmingly long lines.
Still, any voter in line at 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote, no matter how long it takes.
Some voters in the precinct have reported waits of over five hours.
The Democratic National Committee and Pennsylvania Democratic Party petitioned the court to keep the polls open an extra two hours, saying the county failed to send sufficient voting machines and personnel to meet demand.
A Northampton County spokesperson said three machines had been sent, but one broke down early Tuesday. A new machine, along with two additional machines, were brought in later in the day.
The request was opposed by county and state Republican parties, and denied by Judge Craig Dally.
