K-9 helps arrest Charlotte County duo facing list of drug charges A man and woman were arrested after a large amount of drugs were found in the car during a traffic stop in Charlotte County on Sunday. According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, Christopher James Smith, 37, was driving near Tuckers Grade Boulevard and Tamiami Trial in Punta Gorda around 5:30 p.m.. CCSO said a deputy saw a light green pickup truck with Georgia tags failing to stay in its lane. The driver was slurring his words while talking to deputies. The deputy asked Smith to get out of the car and requested EMS to medically clear him. Smith's passenger, Ashley Elaine Winters, 39, stayed in the car. The K-9 alerted deputies that there were drugs inside the car.CCSO said deputies searched the truck and found: 3.5g of crack cocaine1.8g of fentanyl.3g of MDMA26.7g of methamphetamine192.7g of marijuana.1g of oxycodone102 whole and 8 half tablets of clenbuterol55g of THC gummies3 orange suboxone tablets2 needles loaded with liquidDigital scale and empty baggiesThe report states items were tested and proved to be drugs. Deputies also found (medical marijuana, identifications, social security, and VA cards) that did not belong to Smith. Winters told deputies which items belonged to her. She was on felony probation out of Lee County for 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance.
