MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Three men were arrested after police say they broke into a Parkway Village City Gear and stole over $20,000 worth of Nike and Jordan sneakers.

Devontay Bonds, 27; Willie Powell, 23; and Haywood Jordan, 22 were taken into custody and charged with the crime.

Police say on September 18, just before 5 a.m., officers responded to an alarm call at the City Gear located at 4641 American Way. When officers arrived, they saw several people loading boxes of shoes into a silver Kia Sorento and a black Ford Fusion.

The suspects jumped into the cars and fled the scene when they noticed the officers. Reports say Willie Powell ran from police on foot, trying to jump into one of the fleeing cars. The car drove off before Powell was completely inside, causing him to fall out.
