Kamala Harris Cancels Election Night Speech, Expected To Concede After Trump Wins Presidency

Vice President Kamala Harris canceled her planned speech at an election night party early Wednesday but has not yet conceded defeat following former President Donald Trump's projected victory, securing at least 270 electoral votes to return to the White House.

Trump's tally will most likely grow as final votes are counted.

Harris was scheduled to speak Tuesday night at her election night gathering at Howard University in Washington, D.C., her alma mater and a historically Black college.

However, Harris campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond addressed the crowd, emphasizing the need to ensure every vote is counted.

"We still have votes to count. We still have states that have not been called yet," Richmond said. "So you won't hear from the vice president tonight, but you will hear from her tomorrow."

The crowd at Howard University included alumni, Democratic activists, Biden administration officials, and Harris supporters, who had gathered at the school's iconic yard.

Many had hoped to see Harris address the crowd last evening, and she is expected to concede the election on Wednesday.
