Kate Middleton is "doing well" amid her cancer journey according to Prince William . On Wednesday, Nov. 6, the Prince, 42, talked to British broadcasters a few hours before his Earthshot Prize awards were due to be awarded in Cape Town , South Africa and said of Kate: "She's doing really well thanks. And hopefully, she is watching tonight. So cheering me on." Princess Kate, who started her cancer treatment in February, announced the end of her chemotherapy treatment in September. "She's been amazing this whole this whole year. I know she will be really keen to see tonight be a success," William added proudly. At home, in Windsor, with Kate are the couple's three children, children Prince George , 11, Princess Charlotte , 9, and Prince Louis , 6. During the conversation, William was asked whether the whole family followed his example and did their bit for the environment. "Yeah, well, you know, every family tries to do what they can to sort of help with the environment," he said. "We go through all the basics of recycling and making sure we minimize water use and turning off lights when we leave the house and stuff like that, and making sure, which is sensible, in what we do around the environment." "I think every family has these conversations. You just try to do what you can," he continued. William added, "The Earthshot Prize has got to be a bit more global than that. We are trying to do big scale ambition and big scale business to tackle some of the solutions. But I brought the children along that journey and tonight I hope they are watching and they are proud of kind of what we are try to do here, which is to really galvanize that energy that enthusiasm to make real impact." To prove the point, William revealed that his daughter, Charlotte, had made him a friendship bracelet to remind him of them and home. "Well, this is a relic, if you like, from a Taylor Swift concert that my daughter decided that she wanted to create a bracelet for," William explained. "She gave it to me when I came away. So I promised that I'd wear it and try not to lose while I was out here." William said that he had "been greatly looking forward to the time" he could bring Earthshot to Africa. (It's first three awards were in London, Boston and Singapore.) "I love this continent. And spent many a year looking around exploring it," he told the BBC. "And just really thrilled to have the reception of the exuberance and energy that's going to be in this room tonight around Earthshot in South Africa." "I think everyone wants some hope and wants some optimism," he continued about how he believes his hopes for the planet will break through. "I think the Earthshot encompasses urgent optimism. That's what we're here for. And as I think you will see tonight, the amount of youth from Africa who'll be in here. They'll be letting you know and letting everyone know that it matters to them." "Without them, you know, the future is looking pretty bleak," he added. "So these are the game changers. These are the innovators. These are the inventors that are going to make the world a better place for us in the future." Amid her treatment and recovery, Princess Kate attended two public events between the March and September announcements — Trooping the Colour in June and Wimbledon in July — and has appeared at several other events since sharing that she completed chemo. Can't get enough of PEOPLE's Royals coverage? , Meghan Markle and more!
