Kentucky calls on hunters for deer sample giveaway
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is offering prizes for deer samples in their ongoing "Shoot for Samples" giveaway.
Following a discovery of "Zombie Deer" disease in Breckenridge County , the department is inviting hunters statewide to submit samples from legally harvested deer for a chance to win one of five prizes.
Officials say the giveaway will run until January 20, 2025. A winner will be selected from each of following regions in Kentucky:
Green River
Prizes are said to include gift cards valued between $500 and $1,000, along with an Elite Carbon Era bow.
"Hunters play a crucial role in helping us understand the distribution and prevalence of CWD by collecting samples to submit for testing," says deer program coordinator Joe McDermott. "This giveaway shows our appreciation for their efforts, and we're grateful to our sponsors for making it possible."
