Kentucky weather tomorrow: Scattered rain starts a big cooldown into the weekend
LEXINGTON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Impressive numbers for high temperatures here in Lexington this month. We’ve now pushed above 70 for the sixth time in the first 16 days of November. The climate average of 70+ days is three, so we’ve doubled it.
On the flip side, this might be our last 70 of the year. A big drop in temperatures will knock us down below average into the weekend, and a few more systems next week look to keep things cool around Thanksgiving.
Overnight, lows drop into the mid-50s as clouds increase ahead of a cold front that will bring rain on Friday. Temperatures fight to reach the 60s Friday afternoon.
Scattered showers will begin in the early morning, with pockets of rain likely all day. This will persist into the later evening, so folks heading to Home Team Friday Nights out on the football field will want to pack rain gear.
Rain totals will sit between a trace and 0.25”, with zones across eastern Kentucky seeing a chance at around 0.5” of rain.
This won’t make much of a dent in our drought issues across the state, however. The latest drought monitor has portions of southern Kentucky and southeastern Kentucky in a severe drought, with a moderate drought in place near Lexington.
The weekend will be dry and cool, with breezy winds slowing down into Saturday. High temperatures will sit in the low to mid-50s with overnight lows dipping down near freezing each morning.
The weather pattern gets active into Thanksgiving week. A stronger system is set to bring gusty winds and periods of heavy rain Monday–Tuesday, with a slight chance for some back-end flurries early Wednesday.
An early look at Thanksgiving shows highs below average in the 40s and a mostly cloudy theme. Another system targets the region after Thanksgiving as well.
