King’s Takes 3rd, Wilkes 4th In Freedom Golf
HERSHEY — Led by junior Mike Kane, the King’s College men’s golf team earned a third-place finish at the Freedom Conference Tournament Sunday at the Hershey Golf Club.
The Monarchs shot 331 as a team during the first day of play, but scored a day-two 351 for a 682 total for their third-place finish.
Kane was in second place in the individual standings after the first day of competition and shot a day-two score of 89 to finish tied for eighth overall with teammate Brian Kerstetter (168). Kerstetter was tied for 12th on Saturday, but shot an 82 on Sunday to move up.
Also scoring for King’s were Frank Schiel (82-91–173), Mike Wagner (84-89–173) and Greg Galownia (88-93–181).
Wilkes finished fourth in the tournament, scoring 23 strokes better than its day one total on Sunday to finish with 701 strokes
Leading the way for Wilkes was Sean Madden, who shot a 93 on day one, but finished with a 76 to end up 10th overall.
Also scoring for Wilkes were Jamie Montville (87-88–175), Mike Turano (91-90–181), Carmen Winters (97-85–182) and Adam Bachman (91-93–184).
King’s duo fall in semifinals
Blake Bonser and David Boe both advanced to the semifinal round of the MAC Championships Sunday at Kirby Park.
Bonser, who received a bye in the first round and defeated Adrell Dalsan of Arcadia (6-1, 6-0) in the second round, fell to Sam Shorts of Messiah in the semifinals.
Boe, who also had a first-round bye, defeated Anthony Guerriero of DeSales (6-0, 6-0) in the second round before dropping a 6-2, 6-3 match to William Tanis of Messiah in the semifinals.
Swarthmore 9, Misericordia 7
Mike D’Amara led Misericordia with three hits. Brandon Calafut added two hits and two RBI.
Darren Morgan took the loss, allowing all nine runs in seven innings.
