N.Thompson31 min ago

LAFAYETTE, La. () — The third suspect of the deadly barbershop shooting is no stranger to murder allegations. However, the case didn't get past a grand jury the last time he was accused of murder.

On Thursday, 23-year-old Abram Landry was arrested in connection with the late-August shooting at a Lafayette barbershop that claimed the lives of 19-year-old Quincy Duhon Jr. and 48-year-old Johnny Trailer Jr .

The last time he was accused of murder was in 2021 and in connection with the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Shayne Burke. In the days following that shooting, eyewitnesses told KLFY News 10 that Burke was shot mere feet away from his mother's home on Peach Street and that she held him in her arms as neighbors called 911.

Burke was a father, leaving behind a daughter that was not even one-year-old when he died.

What happened with the 2021 murder case?

Landry was arrested in November 2021 by the Grand Coteau Police Department in connection with Burke's death and charged with second-degree murder and simple burglary. He was held on a $360,000 bond.

Lafayette District Attorney Don Landry said the murder case was "pretermitted due to the grand jury wanting more evidence."

That "more evidence" was not found, which resulted in the case being closed for now.

District Attorney Don Landry said if more evidence is presented, that case could be reopened.
