Lady Patriots blank Hanover Area on Senior Day

For Pittston Area senior soccer players Wednesday was their day in more ways than one. The seniors and their parents were honored at halftime and it was seniors who scored all five goals and made both assists as the Lady Patriots beat Hanover 5-0.
The LPs have improved dramatically during their second tour of Division B. In the second half they are 2-1- 1 against four teams they were 0-4 against in the first half. They are 2-7-1 overall.
Senior Desiree Spindler, a four-year starter and all-star, started the scoring at 12:48 of the first. Senior Brianna Purdy set Spindler up in front about 20 yards out and she scorched the net for a 1-0 lead. Spindler scored a second goal unassisted in the second half. Senior Alison Merkel also scored twice and senior Alyssa Pourmonir scored one goal. Megan Lokuta and Nicole Yatison had assists. PA out shot the Lady Hawks 29-10. Lauren Smicherko stooped nine shots in goal.
On Monday the LPs were shutout 2-0 at Honesdale. Smicherko kept it close with 11 saves.

The Wyoming Area girls had a rough week losing 4-1 at 10th Street to Division C leaders Hazleton Thursday. Allie Scalzo scored for the LPs.
On Tuesday the LWs shutout by North Pocono in Moscow. They are 3-6 in Division C. Megan Yurek stopped 14 shots.
