We're now down to 44 days until the election. Let's take another look at the race for Scott County Sheriff.

That contest pits incumbent Republican Tim Lane against a deputy within his ranks Democrat Thomas Gibbs. We introduced you to Gibbs a couple of weeks ago. Now it's Tim Lane's turn.

He started with the department as a correctional officer in 1989 and became a deputy in 1991.

Voters elected him sheriff in 2016. He took office in January of 2017. He was then re-elected to a second term in 2020. Lane's been with the Scott County Sheriff's Office in some capacity for 35 years.

Both candidates for Scott County Sheriff have extensive careers in law enforcement. Tim Lane has the advantage of being the sheriff for the last seven and a half years.

Sheriff Tim Lane joins host Jim Niedelman for a conversation.

"I just still love it," Lane said. "I know that I'm eligible to retire, I could've retired almost seven years ago, but when you love what you do, you want to keep doing it. That's, I think, very important."
