Lansing Amen Free Clinic serves the underprivileged with free healthcare services
LANSING, Mich.(WLNS) — A Mid-Michigan church blessed the community with medical, dental, and vision care, all free of charge.
Lansing Seventh-Day Adventist Church hosted the Amen Free Clinic Sunday afternoon, offering patients a chance to get their medical needs taken care of.
Dariana Arnold, a patient says she got her teeth cleaned and also received a massage. "To be honest I actually expected them to just kinda floss," said Arnold. "You know, just do something quick, but no, it was like an actual dental appointment. It was very nice, very refreshing."
The event was too popular, she wished she had gotten there sooner. "I got here at what I thought what on time at 8 o'clock, and it was packed."
Patients get a medical check-up before being seen by a dentist or an eye doctor.
Many patients were able to get free extractions, fillings, and even free prescriptions. Dr. Harini Ligamgunte, says she saw 10 to 15 patients.
She says she was happy she could provide a service to those who need it the most. "I think in general we need more facilities like this to help those who are uninsured and can't see a regular provider," said Ligamgunte.
Nicole Braxton, Amen's Clinic Director says they've served more than 300 patients. "This clinic is really vital and a huge effort to reach the underserved and underinsured community members, especially with high health care costs," said Braxton.
She says many providers are there on their own time, giving them a chance to help the underprivileged. "We have doctors directly giving back to the community and were so grateful to change lives and impact through health care and build relationships," said Braxton.
Braxton says the next clinic will be at the Midland High School on Sunday, Dec. 8th.
She says the clinic is first come first serve, and patients should arrive at 6 or 7 a.m. before doors open.
