Larry Michael Carmann

Larry Michael Carmann, 75, of Davidson, N.C. (formerly of Grand Island, Neb.), died October 28, 2024, at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center, with his family at his side.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. EST on November 9, 2024, at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Davidson, N.C. The Rev. Carmen Germino will officiate. The memorial service will also be streamed live starting at 2 p.m. EST at left to cherish his memory include his wife of 11 years, Elaine Carmann; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie Carmann (John) Herickhoff of Arlington, Va.; a son, Timothy Carmann of Jersey City, N.J.; two bonus sons and bonus daughters-in-law, Jeff (April) Hibbeler of Davidson, N.C., and Steve (Haley) Hibbeler of Westminster, Colo.; a brother, Glen Carman of Riverdale, Neb.; two sisters, Mary Ann Levi of Green Valley, Ariz., and Dorene Carmann of Hastings, Neb.; and two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry (Colleen) Gulleen of Johnston, Iowa, and Mel (Ellie) Schlachter of Iowa City, Iowa. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Paige, Max, Tess, Abby, Brooke, Lexi, Jacy, and Trevor; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolf and Dorothy Carmann; wife, Marcia Carmann; brothers, Ken Carmann and Harvey Carmann; brothers-in-law, Robert Thober, Lloyd Modlin and John Levi; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Schlachter and Ellie Thober.
Larry was born June 14, 1949, in Kearney, Neb. He grew up in Riverdale, Neb., and received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Kearney State College in 1971. He also received a Master of Arts degree in education from Kearney State College in 1975. While at Kearney State College, Larry was a member of the Beta Sigma Psi National Lutheran Fraternity, including serving as its president and founding member of the BS4 Barbershop Quartet.
Larry was united in marriage to Marcia L. Carmann on May 27, 1972. The couple made Grand Island, Neb. their home until Marcia passed away in 2011. Larry was employed by the Grand Island Public Schools as a mathematics teacher for 26 years at Barr Junior High and seven years at Grand Island Senior High. After retirement, Larry was employed as a mathematics teacher for eight years at Central Community College in Grand Island, Neb. Larry was later united in marriage to Elaine M. (Hibbeler) Carmann on June 15, 2013. The couple most recently made Davidson, N.C., their home.
Larry was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grand Island, Neb. and St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Davidson, N.C. His interests and hobbies included officiating basketball and football, farming, music, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Larry was an exceptional singer in his church choirs and blessed many friends with solos at their special events. His children inherited his dry sense of humor, which he nurtured in them through exposure to The Far Side cartoons.
