LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Carter, the 7-year-old Las Vegas boy who could not close his eyes because of a rare condition is back home after a successful surgery in San Diego.

FOX5 had traveled to San Diego with Carter for his surgery and since then we had a lot of viewers call and email us wondering how he is doing.

This did not surprise us as Carter's story captivated the nation ever since we first aired it in May.

Carter's successful surgery now allows him to open and close his eyes.

FOX5 was with Carter as he stepped into UC San Diego to get his skin graft surgery on his eyes.

We spoke to Carter's mom to the phone who tells us his eye lids and skin grafts are healing the way they are supposed to.

Carter will recover at home for the next few weeks before he goes back to school.
