LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A local sorority in the Las Vegas valley aims to make a difference with a shoe drive that not only helps those in need but also supports high school students pay for college.

The Pi Pi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. is hosting its annual Shoe Drive Fundraiser, accepting shoes of all shapes, sizes, and styles for men, women, and children. All donated shoes will be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network.

Fund2Orgs partners with micro-enterprise businesses and entrepreneurs in developing countries to provide children in need with shoes.

"We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets that they would love to donate," Kenya Evans-Fields, president of Pi Pi Zeta Chapter, said. "By doing so, we raise funds for our young scholars and assist families in developing nations who need and benefit from economic growth. It's a win-win for everyone."

The shoe drive also raises funds for student scholarships. The organization will partner with Funds2Orgs, earning money based on the total weight of the collected shoes. Proceeds will directly support their annual scholarship fund, helping local high school students pursue higher education.

"[Two] of our founding principles are scholarship and service, so those two things go hand-in-hand and are very important to us," Leza Hunt said.

Community members are encouraged to participate by donating their new or gently used or worn shoes on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Cowan Academic Center or on Sunday, Oct. 27, at Mountains Edge HOA Event Center.

Additionally one can donate shoes at these locations.
