Lauren Boebert Urges Trump Supporters to 'Secure His Third Term'
Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has called for Republicans to secure President-elect Donald Trump 's "third term" in a statement following her victory in Colorado's 4th District.
Boebert made the remarks in a social media post after she was declared the winner of the race by several networks including NBC News.
"This is not the end but a beginning. We have work to do. We need to ensure that our Republican majority in the House remains strong, and we must rally behind President Trump to secure his third term," Boebert wrote. "Our work here is to bring Colorado's voice to Capitol Hill, to fight for policies that reflect our district's needs and values."
It is unclear if Boebert was merely mistaken in saying Trump was running for a third term in office this year, or suggesting he could run again in 2028. The Constitution prohibits one person from serving more than two terms as president.
Newsweek has contacted Boebert's office for comment via email.
Boebert leads her Democratic challenger, Trisha Calvarese, for Colorado's 4th District by 53 percent to 43 percent, according to The Associated Press, with an estimated 87 percent of the votes counted.
Boebert currently represents Colorado's 3rd District, but she announced she would switch to the more Republican-friendly 4th District in December 2023.
By switching districts, Boebert avoided a rematch with Democrat Adam Frisch, whom she narrowly beat by 546 votes in November 2022 in a race for the 3rd District.
At time of writing, Frisch trails Republican candidate Jeff Hurd in Colorado's 3rd District by 50 percent to 46.8 percent, with an estimated 84 percent of the votes counted.
In her victory statement, Boebert said: "This victory is not just mine; it is ours. It belongs to every hard-working family, every farmer, every rancher, every small business owner, and every patriot in our district who believes in the principles that built our great nation.
"Together, we have sent a clear message to Washington: Colorado's 4th District will not bend to the whims of the establishment or the pressures of dark money. We stand firm in our convictions, and we demand representation that reflects our values."
Boebert's comments were made before The Associated Press and news networks called Trump the winner of the 2024 election over Kamala Harris .
At the time, Trump had beaten Harris in the key swing states of Georgia, North Carolina, and was expected to win in Pennsylvania.
The AP called the race in favor of Trump at 5:34 a.m. ET after he flipped the swing state of Wisconsin and passed the 270 Electoral College threshold.
Trump currently has 277 Electoral College votes to Harris' 224, according to AP, with the Republican currently leading in the three as-yet-uncalled swing states of Arizona, Michigan, and Nevada.
Trump is now on course to become the second U.S. president to serve two nonconsecutive terms in office. Democrat Grover Cleveland served as the 22nd president from 1885 to 1889 before returning as the 24th from 1893 to 1897.
In his victory speech in Florida, Trump said his second presidential election win was the "greatest political movement of all time."
"There's never been anything like this in this country, and maybe now it's going to reach a new level of importance because we're going to help our country heal," Trump added. "We're going to help our country heal. We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly."
