Laurie Buckhout concedes District 1 race, Congressman Don Davis gives statement
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — WNCT is Your Local Election Headquarters and is continuing to bring you coverage of the tightly-contested race in North Carolina's first Congressional District between Don Davis and Laurie Buckhout.
Incumbent Congressman Don Davis will retain his seat as the U.S. Representative with all precincts reporting. It was a difference that came out to just 1.56 percent.
Buckhout conceded the race in a statement around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, saying in part "I hope he will work with the Trump Administration to help make this happen, the people of Eastern North Carolina deserve no less."
After being announced the projected winner Tuesday night, Congressman Davis shared some remarks and thanked his supporters.
"So many often feel left out and left behind, and please know that I see you, and I'm glad to remain in this fight representing you in the United States House of Representatives, the people's house." Congressman Davis said.
Also Wednesday, Davis released a statement on X in response to officially winning his second term. He said "I eagerly look forward to working with colleagues from both parties and the newly-elected administration. Together, we can strive towards meaningful solutions that can bring the American dream back into the reach of our families."
