GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A new specialized law enforcement center is one step closer to a reality in Gastonia.

The city is leasing property from Gaston College near Rankin Lake Park to construct a law enforcement de-escalation training facility. The lease, approved at Tuesday's City Council meeting, is for 40 years, and the city will only pay $1 per year.

There is no word yet on which local law enforcement agencies will be involved and who will be teaching any courses.

The facility will be built along Bob & Pay Boyd Drive. Gastonia Police already have a firearms training facility on that road. Gaston College will be responsible for building a parking lot there.
