Lawsuit accuses Alfie Oakes of failing to pay $2.8 million in loans
A new lawsuit accuses Seed To Table owner Alfie Oakes of failing to pay millions of dollars in loans. It comes as law enforcement raided his North Naples home and packaging plant in Immokalee Thursday morning.
The lawsuit filed in mid-October claims Oakes took out two loans totaling about $4.5 million from the Farm Credit of Florida, a Farm Credit Association. As of Oct. 9, Oakes is accused of still owing about $2.8 million to the organization.
In December 2019, Oakes gave a guarantee his company would pay both loans, but in May 2024, Oakes gave a forbearance agreement, saying they will fail to pay in full.
The lawsuit explained that if Oakes did not pay in full by Aug. 30, 2024, Florida Farm Credit had the right to seize Oakes' property.
Agencies still have not confirmed if Oakes' alleged default prompted the raid.
ABC7 saw multiple agencies, including the Florida Highway Patrol and the IRS, at Oakes' home along Santa Cruz Court in the Villages of Monterey community in North Naples Thursday. Officials wearing blue gloves were seen going in and out of his home, carrying boxes and a computer.
Federal agents from the Defense Criminal Investigative Service were seen at an agricultural packing plant in Immokalee. The DCIS investigates cases of fraud, bribery, and corruption, including cyber crimes and computer intrusions.
Oakes is a conservative political influencer and the owner of Oakes Farm and Seed to Table supermarket. He was born in Delaware and grew up in Southwest Florida. Recently, he held the position of Collier County Republican State Committeeman.
ABC7 reached out to federal officials and Farm Credit of Florida.
