LWV News:

The community is invited to join the League of Women Voters of Los Alamos (LWV) as it hosts the 2024 nonpartisan Candidate Forum at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7 in the UNM-Los Alamos Student Center, Building 2. Attendees are invited to arrive at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments and the opportunity to chat with the candidates.

Outgoing County Clerk Naomi Maestas will explain the voting procedures. Kristin Henderson, Chair of the UNM-LA Advisory Board, will explain the UNM-LA General Obligation Bonds question.

Two unopposed candidates will speak and answer questions: Rep. Christine Chandler, running for New Mexico House District 43 (the district that includes Los Alamos and White Rock), and Michael Redondo, running for Los Alamos County Clerk.

All five candidates for County Council will introduce themselves and answer questions:

  • Republican Incumbent David Reagor;
  • Democrat Incumbent Denise Derkacs;
  • Libertarian James Wernicke;
  • Democrat Beverly Neal-Clinton; and
  • Democrat Ryn Herrmann.
  • As always for the LWV Forums, members of the Los Alamos High School Hilltalkers will serve as timekeepers.

    Finally, don't forget to consult the LWV Voter Guide for candidates' responses to questions of interest to the community, as well as information about the four proposed constitutional amendments and the five general obligation bonds, the final one of which is the GO Bond to fund upgrades to UNM-LA.

    The Voter Guide will be published in the Los Alamos Daily Post print edition and delivered by mail on Thursday, Oct. 3 to every mailbox in Los Alamos and White Rock.
