Learn How To Prevent Falls, Fires In December In Nashua United Way of Greater Nashua hosts "Preventing Falls and Fires at Home" with Fire Marshal's Office, NFPA's Steps to Safety Program, Dec. 6.NASHUA, NH — The United Way of Greater Nashua is excited to announce the next installment of its Coffee and Causes series, Preventing Falls and Fires at Home, happening from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, Dec. 6, at Dartmouth Health in Nashua.
This free event will feature Rebecca Cowser from the NH Fire Marshal's Office, sharing the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) Steps to Safety program, an initiative aimed at reducing home fire and fall risks for older adults.
The Coffee and Causes series brings the Nashua community together for engaging discussions on important topics that impact local health, safety, and well-being. Each session provides coffee, refreshments, and expert-led presentations designed to educate and empower participants on how to address prevalent issues in their lives and neighborhoods. Past Coffee and Causes events have covered topics like food security, mental health, and housing resources. United Way of Greater Nashua's goal for the series is to connect individuals with the information and community support they need to thrive.
This session, Preventing Falls and Fires at Home, will cover critical safety information for older adults, who are twice as likely as the general population to be injured or killed in a fire. The session will also address fall prevention—an issue so widespread that fire services now respond to more falls than fires. With one in three older adults experiencing a fall each year, education on home modifications and safety practices is essential.
