Leaves changing colors throughout Spearfish Canyon

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Spearfish Canyon is a sight to see during the fall, with a plethora of warm colors that visitors can enjoy at every corner.

With autumn in full swing, leaves all around the Canyon are changing colors into red, orange and yellow.

There were quite a few people who visited Spearfish Friday, to take in all of its beauty and splendor.

"I figured it would be a nice drive, and it's a beautiful day, so let's do it. I feel like I'm watching a Bob Ross video in the making," a resident of Box Elder, Kaitlyn Toppings, said.

"It's beautiful, beautiful state, South Dakota. Coming from California, it's a lot different from here. So, love it, love it so far," tourist Kevin Toppings said.

With plenty of colors to see, Kaitlyn wasn't expecting the color of the leaves to change this early in October.

"Luckily, many of my co-workers told me, 'Oh no, you just haven't seen the right places yet,' and that's a true testament here today," Kaitlyn said.

She has an appreciation for the Canyon during the fall due to all the foot traffic that arrives during the summer.

"I enjoy it a little bit more just cause the summer does get really busy with the amount of tourists that come, which is so great. But, being able to kind of have this nice more quiet time and space with my loved ones, it's been a good pleasure to have," Kaitlyn added.

Kevin is glad he came to visit the Canyon at a perfect time.

"Just talking to our wife on the phone on the way here, she's at lunch at home, and we're talking to her about the changing of the trees and the views. It's just, it's just beautiful," Kevin said.

If you're looking to cross an item from your South Dakota bucket list, this place wouldn't be a bad start.
