LEEDS, Ala. (WIAT) — Leeds Main Street announced a partnership with Main Street Alabama and Place + Main Advisors to create a real estate redevelopment plan.

As part of the Main Street Alabama network, Leeds Main Street aims to support small businesses and celebrate community in the downtown area of Leeds. The project will focus on finding potential uses for vacant and underutilized properties in the downtown area, including a downtown retail market analysis and the evaluation of several buildings.

"We're excited to have both Main Street Alabama and Place + Main Advisors experience downtown Leeds, review the data of where our business patrons are coming from, and what other types of businesses would be a good fit for the community," said Leeds Main Street Executive Director, Kristy Biddle.

On Nov. 19 and 20, members of the team will evaluate some of the buildings and review data involving the area. They will also host a Walking Visioning Tour on Nov. 19, which the public is invited to join. The tour will start at 6 p.m. in the parking lot of 8052 Parkway Drive.

The Real Estate Development Plan is paid for through a federal grant from the US Economic Development Administration, which was applied for by Main Street Alabama, Opportunity Alabama and the Business Council of Alabama. Main Street Alabama is using their portion of the grand to serve designated communities through real estate redevelopment plans, small-scale production workshops and incremental development trainings.

"Main Street Alabama is proud to offer this service to our Designated Communities," commented Mary Helmer Wirth, President/State Coordinator of Main Street Alabama. "This is just one of the many ways Main Street Alabama assists our communities to reach their full potential."
