TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - It was an emotional night at Leon High School as after a year or renovations, the Lions opened their new gymnasium complete with a new name. Big Red dedicating "Mark Feely Court" to its longtime Athletic Director who passed away in summer of 2022.

The former AD's family was on hand to cut the ribbon alongside Leon County Schools Superintendent Rocky Hannah who served as principal at Leon alongside Feely.

"I graduated from Leon 20 years ago, Coach Feely was my head football coach," said current AD Riley Bell of his mentor. "He taught me so many things not just about football but about life and he made me feel like he was a part of his family. To have his family here tonight to name this court in his honor, my heart is full. There's a lot of people in this gym who couldn't be happier to have his name on our court forever."

The Lions' varsity volleyball team would christen the new floor with a victory, defeating rival Lincoln in four sets.
