Letter: A silver star for 2024 endorsements

J.Smith23 min ago

Congratulations on your well-reasoned and thoughtful endorsements for the 2024 election. They are in the finest traditions of journalism and serve notice to current and future politicians that our local paper is a diligent member of the Fourth Estate and will not only serve truth and justice but also demonstrate courage in stating your recommended candidates for office. Your courage is doubly appreciated in this divided election, where well-respected national papers have refused to endorse this year. You will probably lose some Star subscribers preferring other candidates. The debates among your guest editors must have been bloody but I applaud your having the courage of your convictions. My recommended award would have been a Gold Star had you endorsed before most of us voted by mail, but you confirmed most of my choices and changed your endorsement policy of last year. Truth and justice are struggling in this election and as another editor Clare Boothe Luce said, "Courage is the ladder on which all the other virtues mount."
