Letter: Listen to Trump's own people regarding his fitness for office

R.Anderson36 min ago

A group of more than 100 former Republican administration defense officials, many of whom served in former President Donald Trump's administration, say Trump is unfit for office. They join a list that includes his former vice president, his former GOP opponents such as Nikki Haley, and even his current vice presidential nominee, J.D. Vance — who once called Trump "reprehensible."

But whereas the Democrats sensibly convinced President Joe Biden into dropping out of the presidential race after his debate performance made it clear his candidacy was untenable, Trump is still the Republican party's nominee.

Imagine a second Trump presidency: He certainly won't include in his administration any of the Republicans who still criticize him. Thus, he would be unrestrained by his own staff and cabinet this time.

Nor would he be tempered by a compliant Supreme Court or by a Congress filled with sycophants like Sen. Josh Hawley and Rep. Ann Wagner of Missouri. Good-bye to women's reproductive health, a free Ukraine and any efforts to slow climate change.

Now imagine a Kamala Harris presidency: Her policy proposals are sensible; fears of a radical leftist agenda are unrealistic. Restrained by a conservative Supreme Court and a divided Congress, she would likely be a capable president with a competent administration pursuing a modest agenda.

I'm amazed that some people are still on the fence about these elections. Just vote for candidates who are actually fit for office.
