Letter: Presidential powers are limited

D.Davis9 hr ago

I have liberal friends who worry that Trump will dismantle the constitution, destroy democracy, turn the military against "the enemy within", deport 12 million sneak-ins, prohibit abortions....

I hope that elementary teachers have not canceled the study of government and replaced it with the study of, say, gender fluidity. This is fundamental: Each of our three branches has checks and balances that prohibit another branch (Trump for instance) from going rogue. President's job: to execute laws, not write them. Executive orders also have limitations prescribed by law.

If Trump dismantled the Constitution (and he can't), he would also dismantle the powers of his own office. If he launched an actual insurrection (Jan. 6th wasn't even close) I would join my fellow patriotic gun owners and prevent it from succeeding. In a heartbeat.

So, stop worrying. If Adolf Hitler rose from his grave and became our President, even he could never shake the foundation of our great nation.
