Letter: Something is wrong

E.Chen1 hr ago

From Jan. '23 thru April '24 campaign contributions to U.S. senator, representative and presidential candidates was reported to total $8.6 billion. Of that, $5.6 billion was spent by independent Political Action Committees. These amounts will only balloon when state and local campaigns are factored in, and the final reporting is done. It is fair to say that this level of giving comes primarily from rich individuals and corporations due to the 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court ruling. Afterall, if one is having trouble meeting living expenses, one has little to no dollars to send to politicians. Which of these groups will have the most influence on legislation? Should political campaigns have public financing? Your answers are not my point. All this disposable income suggests there is something wrong with the tax code.
