Letter to the editor: We don't need out-of-state influencers

In regard to CI-128: The language is too vague to be part of the Constitution of Montana. Currently, Montana allows abortion up to 20 weeks/5 months. First point: A mother should know at this point whether she wants to be rid of her child.

Montana allows for abortions for life of the mother. The second point is this would allow for a stranger, a teacher, or an abuser, to take a child to have an abortion without involving the love and concern of a parent. For those children who have been taught that a child within the womb is a gift from God, goes forth out of fear and pressure by those outside the family, an abortion would have grave effects on the mental health of that child.

The third point is the funding for this came from outside of Montana. The Fairness Project (DC), Think Big America-MT(DC), ACLU Foundation New York, as well as funds from Virginia and California to name a few. Undefined terms create bad laws. I do not want out-of-state influence regarding what should be in the Montana Constitution. For no other reason I would vote against this bill to send a message that Montana can write its own laws and is of no need of out-of-state influencers.

Robert and Nici Wallis,
