As a high school senior, this November will be the first time I vote. I have long been considering this first trip to the election booth, and while I am admittedly not as in touch with the economy and the working class as most adults, I still hope that I can make the right decision.

On one hand, I could adhere to many voters' principle of blindly casting a ballot for the candidates that represent their party. However, I believe this practice is the reason the United States is controlled by an unrelenting two-party system that demands its constituents vote strictly for their party. The most important resource we could have during this upcoming election is an informed vote.

Rather than viewing candidates only by their party affiliation, consider who you are voting for, what their platform is, and whether they will represent you the best. Political representatives are the only connection "we the people" have with the unimaginable power that is our government. Why should we throw away our voting power without taking the time to consider its importance and relevance to our lives? This November, be conscious of whom you vote for and make sure they have your best interest in mind.
