Liam Gallagher mural on fish and chip shop in Manchester leaves people in stitches - as they all make the same joke

A mural featuring Liam Gallagher in an oversized parka has appeared on the wall of chip shop and people are all saying the same thing online.

The mural of the Oasis star, 52, which is above the Maine Road Chippy on Ashton New Road, Manchester, features Liam in an oversized hooded parka.

However people have compared the singer to a 'roast chicken' in the mural which is part of a partnership with Stone Island clothing brand.

Taking to X, formerly know as Twitter , people left their thoughts on the artwork, which overlooks the Etihad Stadium, the home of Liam's beloved Manchester City FC.

On person wrote: 'He looks a bit like a roast chicken at Christmas .' Another added: 'Will he be cooked and ready for Xmas.'

Someone else said: 'Looks like he's wearing a condom.' Meanwhile another said: 'That's hideous, even he can't pull that off.'

The brown jacket Liam is wearing is called the Glass Cover-TC from Stone Island and retails at a pricey £2,145.

The artwork is accompanied by Liam's answer to the question what his favourite city in the world is, which he replied: 'Manchester City and Manchester the city.'

In August Oasis fans marked the band's reunion by descending on a record shop immortalised in their hit, Shakermaker.

Sifters Records in Didsbury, Manchester, was where the Gallagher brothers first started buying music as youngsters.

It is referenced in the Definitely Maybe track in the line written by Noel which goes: 'Mr Sifter sold me songs when I was just 16, now he stops at traffic lights but only when they're green.'

Superfans pitched up to take in the small piece of music history as the famous brothers unveiled a mammoth run of stadium tour dates next year after a 15 year hiatus, including four dates each in Manchester and London.

Sports writer Razz Ashraf, 29, drove down to the store before work and said the reunion was a 'monumental moment'.

Speaking outside the store, he said: 'I've just been blasting [Oasis songs] Shakermaker and Columbia, I am buzzing.

'I set my alarm for 7.30 this morning, I woke up and I felt pure excitement and ecstasy. It's an amazing feeling. They've reunited after 15 years.

'I've come down to Sifters, that's where it all started, that's the record shop where they bought their records before they formed the band.

'The owner was the one who educated them on music and there's a big mural on the side. I wanted to feel the energy of where it all started.

'I've been to the shop a few times but never seen this mural actually, it's stunning.'

The line about Sifters was supposedly born out of a frustrating taxi ride between the Gallagher brothers, as Liam begged Noel to hurry up and finish writing the song.

The cab stopped outside the shop on Fog Lane, named after how one 'sifts' through records and run by Peter Howard from 1977, so Noel penned the lyric.

Sifters Records became so famous that owner Mr Howard told Manchester Evening News that he has been asked to sign autographs as 'Mr Sifter'.

The Gallaghers - who shared a famously volatile relationship - broke up Oasis for good in 2009 after a row backstage on tour.

A public war of words broke out over the ensuing years and the pair were believed to have never been in the same room since.

Earlier this year the band announced they would return in 2025 for the first time since breaking up following a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in France, to play concerts in Manchester, Cardiff, London, Edinburgh and Dublin.

The band will also embark on a tour of the US, Canada and Australia.

It comes after the band announced that Liverpool-formed Britpop group Cast would be the second opening act for Oasis at all 19 dates on the UK and Ireland leg of the tour.

Cast frontman John Power, who began his career in The La's, said of the tour: 'I'm blown away at the reunion.

'Oasis are the voice of a generation and the songs that they wrote and sung were and still are the soundtrack to many people's dreams. They are the people's band.

'I've known Noel and Liam (Gallagher) all through the years, we go way back. It's been some ride, some journey.

'I've felt and known their music personally, as a fan. It inspired me as a songwriter, it blew the whole scene open like nothing before and it reached way beyond the stratosphere. Everything changed.

'We were all part of that and we will all be part of this. I'm especially looking forward to revisiting my family's Irish roots when the tour hits Dublin. Let the opening chords shimmer and shine next July.'

Former Verve singer Richard Ashcroft has already been announced as a supporting act for the tour.

It is a full circle moment for the Gallagher brothers, who supported The Verve in 1993 as one of their first national tours.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, on Monday, Oasis wrote: 'Just Announced, will be joining as a special guest for all UK and Ireland Oasis Live '25 shows.'

Liam Gallagher has teased the news on X in recent weeks. On September 13, a fan asked: 'Ashcroft supporting the UK shows?' He replied: 'That would be BIBLICAL.'

Ashcroft is a longtime friend of Liam and Noel, who supported The Verve in 1993. Noel also wrote the track 'Cast No Shadow' as a tribute to Ashcroft.
