Lightning cancels 15th annual Pedal the Cause rides

ST. CHARLES – All rides for the 15th Annual Pedal the Cause event are cancelled because of lightning.

Over 5,000 people were expected to gather at the Family Arena in St. Charles this morning to ride anywhere between 10 and 100 miles.

Event organizers said that while the weather looks more promising this afternoon, they are unable to have course support and the police presence necessary for safe rides later in the day.

Organizers are hoping to still host a lunch for people registered to ride.

Pedal the Cause raises critical money for cancer research and has paid for 228 cancer research projects to date.

They had a huge turnout yesterday for other Pedal the Cause events going on including a kids ride and a banquet.
