Lions Approching Busy Time Of Year

Alberta Griffiths, superintendent of the Hanover Area School District, will
be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Lions Club of Hanover
Township. This dinner meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at
the Wyoming Valley Country Club, Middle Road.
The 300 Club awards will selected by Chairman Frank Cackowski with the help
of Michael Kowalick, George Kempinski and Stanley Kupinsky.
Jack Claherty, chairman of the White Cane campaign will give the final
tally of the campaign. John Basar, chairman of the Crossroads Holiday Project
will discuss the project and announce the work schedules. Plans will be made
for the annual Christmas party.
Following the business session of the meeting, President Marty Williams
will conduct a meeting of the board of directors.
Other Lions activities
Lions Clubs International has named Simon Korba a Melvin Jones Fellow.
Named for the founder of the world’s largest service organization, the
recognition honors Korba’s humanitarian service within the local and
international community.
St. Casimir’s Church news
In observance of All Saints Day, there will be two Masses today, Nov. 1, at
the church – at 7:15 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Members of St. Casimir’s Church are holding a Night at the Races on Nov.
Without sponsorship, admission is $3, and includes food and beverages.
This event will be held in the church social hall. All are welcome.
Around the township
Preston Hose Co. No. 3 will meet Monday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. at the hose
house. All members are urged to attend.

Feed-A-Friend drop-off point is Gerrity’s Supermarket, Dundee Plaza.
Non-perishable food items and monetary donations are accepted.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6. Get out and vote.

Meeting schedule
The monthly work session of the Hanover Township Board of Commissioners
will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
A special meeting will precede the work session at 6:30 pm.
The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Commissioners will be held at 7
p.m. Nov. 12.
Both meetings will be held at the municipal building on Sans Souci Parkway.
Offices closed
All township offices, with the exception of the fire and police
departments, will be closed Monday, Nov. 12, in observance of Veterans Day.
Township offices will be closed Nov. 22, Thanksgiving Day.
Garbage pickup scheduled for that day will be picked up on Friday. All
other schedules remain the same.

Graduation Day
Hanover Area Board of Education amended its policy regarding graduation
requirements to accommodate veterans of World War II.
According to the new guidelines, diplomas may be awarded to World War II
veterans who left high school prior to graduation to enter the service if
these criteria are met:
The individual was honorably discharged from the armed forces of the United
He or she served in the United States military between Sept. 16, 1940, and
Dec. 31, 1946.
He or she attended high school between 1937 and 1946 and would have been a
member of a graduation class from 1941 to 1950 but did not graduate due to
entry into military service.
The board may award a diploma posthumously to a veteran who meets the
stated requirements.
The superintendent shall submit the names of veterans eligible for a high
school diploma to the board for approval.
Plans are being made to award the diplomas during Wednesday’s school board
meeting.
