Lions Club to assist with park

The Hughestown Lions Club will meet Monday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hughestown Hose Co. President Steve Golya will preside.
On the agenda will be the plans to assist with the installation of the new playground equipment in the Robert Yaple Memorial Park on May 2. Volunteers are needed for this project and all members are urged to attend.
Vince Mammarella, councilman for Hughestown Borough for many years, has sent in his resignation, effective April 30. Vince has served on park and recreation for many years. Looking back at the days when Chief Giardina was around, he participated in many political events in the interest of the borough.
He was given praise from Mayor Paul Hindmarsh and Council President Barbara Gatto for his years of service.
The Sex Offender Ordinance has been drawn up. Copies may be obtained by calling the borough building.
Hughestown police report: 121 incidents, 67 citations, 2 criminal responses, 2 k-9 responses, 4 accidents. Chief Steve Golya.
Appointed for 30 day period as police officers for the borough, Dan Evancho, and Joseph Bender.
Hughestown Hose Company: 4 brush fires, 3 cancelled enroute, 27 EMS calls, 1 investigation, 1 stand by, 1 structure fire a total of 37 calls.
Pittston City has asked for help with the Water Park at Cosgrove Park, residents may donate to this.
Trees for Robert Yaple Park will be looked into through a grant. A report will be given at the next council meeting. Robert Yaple Park is starting to progress with the new playground equipment.
A drainage ditch was put in and the area is being graded, for May 2. Anyone wishes to help may do so by being at park area starting at 8 a.m. or anytime after. Carmen Abrosino has been in touch with the mayor and members of the park and recreation about the progress.
Marie Griglock is applying to reduce the number of council persons from 7 to 5 in the borough. Another hearing is scheduled for May 18, at 10 a.m. in the Bernard Brominski Building, 3rd floor, 113 W. North Street, Wilkes-Barre.
