Clovis Unified's $400 million school bond now hovers above the required 55% voter approval threshold, but remained closely contested as of Tuesday evening's update of vote results in Fresno County.

The district's Measure A was 1.82 percentage points above the voter approval threshold Tuesday with 50,258 "yes" votes, or 56.82%, compared to 38,186 "no" votes.

Tuesday's update of vote results tilted the bond measure toward approval, though its fate remains clouded. There remain about 49,000 ballots to be counted, according to the Fresno County Clerk/Registrar of Voters. It's unclear how many of those ballots include voters in the Clovis Unified district.

Measure A, at one point, trailed 25 votes shy of voter approval and voter returns since Election Night suggest its outcome will be decided by a razor-thin margin.

Clovis Unified officials say the bond is urgently needed to finance the construction of the district's sixth comprehensive high school, Clovis South High . District officials project it will cost $510 million to build a sprawling education center that will house a new high school and middle school set to open in the 2025-26 school year.

Measure A is expected to cover $180 million of the project's outstanding costs.

Other projects earmarked for Measure A funds include flooring and roof replacement, LED lighting upgrades, audio and video technology improvements. Clovis Unified is also planning to consolidate window glass in schools across the district.
