Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez spotted celebrating in ex-Everton star's face after Uruguay score 101st-minute winner to beat Colombia

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez celebrated in front of former Everton defender Yerry Mina as Uruguay beat Colombia 3-2 in an epic South American World Cup qualifier.

Colombia led 1-0 at half-time courtesy of a cheeky Juan Fernando Quintero free-kick but an own goal from former Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez and Rodrigo Aguirre strike made it 2-1 to the home side before the hour-mark.

Much of the game's drama then came in added time.

Andres Gomez equalised for Colombia in the 96th minute.

However, the was still time for Uruguay to bag a dramatic winner in the 101st minute when Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte hit the net from 15 yards.

Ugarte's winner sparked wild celebrations, both on the field and in the stands, with Uruguayan striker Nunez reacting by celebrating in the face of Colombia's Mina.

Mina had only entered the action as a substitute five minutes earlier.

Nunez was still pumped up after the final whistle and was seen appearing to argue with Liverpool team-mate Luis Diaz, who had played the full game for Colombia.

But after a seemingly heated discussion, Nunez and Diaz hugged each other.

Mina, meanwhile, played for Everton between 2018 and 2023. He joined Fiorentina on a free transfer before moving to his current side Cagliari in June.

Nunez played the full 90 minutes for his country and came into the game off the back of starting and scoring in Liverpool's 2-0 win against Aston Villa last weekend.

He has started just four times under Reds boss Arne Slot in the Premier League this season, however, but has been hailed by his manager for his determination.

'I think about Darwin, I gave him credit for the fact he worked so hard in previous weeks when he didn't play a lot to be able to play three games in a row,' Slot said.

'I think three games in eight days, so that says a lot about him – but it also says a lot about the quality of our performance staff and medical staff that we were able to give him the right sessions to prepare him in the right way.'
