LOCAL BASKETBALL: Quinn Bennett free throw with 1.3 seconds left gives Slocomb win
Quinn Bennett was fouled on a mid-range jumper with 1.3 seconds left in the game and hit a free throw to break a tie and give the Slocomb JV girls basketball team a 30-29 win over Wicksburg on Tuesday night.
Bennett finished with 17 points and sibling Hallie Bennett followed with nine points.
Chloe Wallace led Wicksburg with 14 points. Wallace hit a basket on a fastbreak to tie the game at 29 before Bennett's game-winning free throw.
Geneva County Junior High 23, Daleville 20: Bella Wambles had eight points, Mary Michael Miller five points and Bella Childs four points to lead Geneva County.
Makayla Evans had 14 points to lead Daleville.
Georgiana Junior High 31, Opp 17: Saniyah Stephens scored four points and had two block shots to lead Opp, while Samantha Robertson had seven rebounds, Jayla Bell had five rebounds and Chynna Carpenter four rebounds.
Geneva Middle School 47, Freeport 13: Sidonna Scobie had a game-high 10 points, while Annsley Adams had seven points and Lylla King, Synia Williams and Sophie Gilmore had six each to lead Geneva.
Ashford 26, Northside Methodist 18: Ayden Ammons and Michael Price both had five points and eight rebounds to lead Northside Methodist in the loss.
Geneva 65, Freeport 56: Keshan Stevens had 20 points, Brigham McKnight 15 and Mykel Carter 13 to lead Geneva's win. Cooper White added 10 for Geneva (8-0).
Georgiana 47, Opp 8th grade 38: For Opp, Travis Collins had 20 points and five steals, while Bryson Barfoot had eight points and Anthony Morrow six points and 12 rebounds.
Daleville 36, Geneva County 33: Gavin Thomas had 12 points and Jacob Rivera 10 points to lead Daleville.
Logan Ford led Geneva County with 16 points.
Slocomb 24, Wicksburg 21: Bryant Battle had seven points and Brogan Aplin six points to lead Slocomb.
Collin Mims led Wicksburg with eight points.
G.W. Long 51, Zion Chapel 17: Kyrie McLeod had 14 points, Zyan Marshall 12 and Jacob Pruiett eight to lead G.W. Long.
Daniel Lee had eight points to lead Zion Chapel.
Kinston 41, Elba 28: JD Hart had 25 points and Evan Hilburn eight to lead Kinston.
J. Williams had 14 points for Elba.
