NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Local Filipino American nurses detailed what they've endured in the medical field at a screening of "Nurse Unseen." The documentary highlights the frontline experience of those who cared for others during the COVID pandemic. The screening included a panel of multigenerational nurses who shared personal and professional stories of their experiences while helping others before, during and after the pandemic.Southeastern Virginia (SEVA) Filipino American Lions Club with the Filipino American National Historical Society of Hampton Roads (FANHS-HR) teamed up to create the event, "Unsung No More: Our Caring Nurses and Filipino American Community in South Hampton Roads," to heal together as a community in the wake of anti-Asian hate that community members still experience. "Our mission is to foster and help others, humanitarian and internationally. And that's why we want everyone to know that this movie is really important for everybody to see what nurses and seeing is all about," said Justine Reyes-Ford, president of SEVA Filipino American Lions Club. The event will help fund further cultural and historical programming for Filipino Americans in Hampton Roads.
