BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – It's college application season and thousands of high schoolers from across the Southern Tier had the chance to meet with a variety of different schools in hopes of finding the perfect fit.

The Binghamton College and Career Day was held on Wednesday at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton.

High school students were able to discuss the application process, campus life, and financial aid with representatives from community colleges, SUNY colleges, private colleges, and Ivy League schools. There were also representatives from the armed services and trade schools.

Binghamton High School Consular and Co-chair of Binghamton College Day Glenn Whittington says meeting with representatives face to face is very valuable to the application process.

"As they embark on life after high school, the decisions that they have to make are perhaps the most important decisions they've had to make up to this point in their life. So, getting as much information as possible will help them make the best decision that they could possibly do. Talking to somebody, talking to a human, is vital," said Whittington.

Whittington best piece of advice to students applying to college is to check your email because colleges send very important information out during this time.

There will be another session of the fair tonight for students and parents at 6 p.m.

Whittingham says there will be less people, so it serves as a good opportunity to learn more.
