It was a viral video that had many calling Patrick Uncangco a local hero.

"I was always taught that if you see something wrong just do something about it," Uncangco noted.

He spoke with KUAM hours after his takedown in Dededo that stopped an erratic driver who nearly hit him and others on the road.

The suspect was identified by authorities as DJ Tosiuo, a man wanted in connection to violent gang activity.

"It was super instinctual. Growing up I was always like that. I am the oldest of six so it was natural for me to just take over and take the lead and go from there," he added.

Ten days after that encounter senators gave Uncangco the recognition he deserves with Senator Tom Fisher saying, "On behalf of the people of Guam, recognize Patrick James Flores Uncangco for his extraordinary bravery and civic responsibility by apprehending an assailant who was later found to be wanted by the Guam Police Department for multiple crimes."

Guam Crime Stoppers Chair James McDonald also congratulated Uncangco, awarding him with McDonald's restaurant coupons as a small token of appreciation.

"We want to thank you because you know that Guam is experiencing an epidemic of meth and now, we're talking about fentanyl and wherever there's drugs there are weapons," said McDonald.

Uncangco's family also joined him for this special day. Still, he remains humble despite the many who call him a good samaritan turned hero.

"Thank you for your time. In my opinion there was nothing heroic, it was just my instincts and that is all it came down to and the end of the day for me," said Uncangco.

A hero who will also be getting a good samaritan award from the Attorney General this Friday.
