Local roundup: Tewksbury native Adam Fuller up for prestigious college coaching award
Tewksbury native Adam Fuller was named Monday as one of 15 semifinalists for the Broyles Award, presented annually to college football’s top assistant coach.
Fuller, a 1994 Tewksbury High graduate, is the defensive coordinator at Florida State. The Florida State defense is one of just five in the nation to not allow a 30-point game this season. Florida State’s defense hasn’t allowed 30 points in 11 games, the third-longest mark in the country.
Under Fuller’s direction, Florida State is allowing just 16.9 points per game, the fewest in the ACC. In October, the Seminoles held all four of their opponents under 150 passing yards.
Fuller was named Florida State’s defensive coordinator on Dec. 12, 2019.
The Seminoles lead the nation in pass breakups, are No. 2 in passes defended and third nationally in third-down defense. FSU is also top 25 nationally in first downs allowed, passing yards allowed, passing yards per completion, red zone defense, passing efficiency defense, sacks and total defense.
At Tewksbury High, Fuller was a standout linebacker. He went to have a tremendous career at Sacred Heart University, leading the team in tackles two straight years. He was named a captain prior to this senior season and served in the same role at the National All-Star Bowl in Cleveland, Ohio.
Quirbach honored
Saint Michael’s College swimming and diving sophomore Connor Quirbach (Lowell/Chelmsford) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Swimmer of the Week for the second straight week.
Quirbach went 7-for-7 with three top times in the NE10 this season while helping the Purple Knights win their second consecutive North Country Invitational. He captured the 200 free (1:43.27), 500 free (4:48.30) and 1,650 free (17:34.49), with each time the best in the league this season. His 1,000 free split (10:03.83) was a school record and was faster than the top time recorded by any NE10 swimmer thus far this winter.
MacCormack MVP
The ISL has named BBN junior running back Bo MacCormack the recipient of the Darren Gallup MVP Award.
MacCormack, a Westford native, shared the honor with Tabor Academy running back Hugo Djeumeni. MacCormack is coming off a game for the ages during a 63-43 win over Tabor.
MacCormack rushed for 430 yards on 41 carries and scored eight touchdowns. He also found time to toss a 46-yard TD on an option pass.
Lawrence Academy in Groton placed six players on the ISL all-star team: seniors Michael Landolfi, Michael Gregoire, Tavian Fenderson and Cole Nelson, and juniors Jordan Johnson and Darnell Cicero-Bronson.
