Lockdown initiated at two schools in Harrisburg after shots fired

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A shooting on Monday afternoon sent two schools in Harrisburg into lockdown.

Steele Elementary School, located at 2537 N 5th Street, and Camp Curtain Academy, located at 2900 N 6th Street, went into lockdown for around 30 minutes after shots were fired near N 6th Street, according to a statement from Harrisburg School District.

A spokesperson for the district said that staff and students took shelter in classrooms and were safe during the lockdown.

Principals at each school were alerted about a shooting around 3 p.m. and initiated a lockdown, which was then lifted around 3:35 p.m. the statement reads.

There were no changes to dismissal, as students were let go at their usual time.

An inquiry has been left with police by abc27 for more information about the shooting, it is unclear if anyone was injured or if a suspect is in custody.
