Lorain police discuss shooting involving officer

LORAIN, Ohio (WJW) – The Lorain Police Department held a press conference Thursday on a recent shooting involving an officer.

Chief Jim McCann held an update at Lorain City Hall.

According to police, Lorain officers responded to a report of a vehicle break-in on the 1300 block of W. 17th Street on October 7 .

Police say officers encountered the suspect in a driveway before he fled on foot, prompting a chase.

Police say officers confirmed the suspect was in possession of a firearm at some point during the pursuit.

An officer discharged several rounds, striking the suspect, who then fell to the ground.

The suspect was taken to the hospital and is facing multiple charges, including aggravated robbery.

Elyria police are investigating the shooting involving an officer.

Chief McCann identified the officer as Isaiah Taylor. He's been with the department since 2019.

McCann said the suspect has a lengthy criminal history.

He's been identified as Dustin Lee Terry, 26.

Police say he was armed but dropped his gun when he was shot by police. The weapon was later recovered.

Terry was treated for multiple gunshot wounds and is currently in jail.
