Love and lowriders: Local couple shares their unique wedding story

SAN ANTONIO - When Sammy and Frances Hernandez decided to marry, they knew it had to be an event that shared their love of lowriders.

The couple made history by becoming the first to wed at the Lowrider Magazine Super Show in San Antonio, a moment that not only cemented their bond but also went viral.

"My name is Sammy Hernandez, and this is my beautiful wife, Frances," said Sammy. "This is our 1979 Lincoln Continental, and this is my 1986 Buick Regal."

For Sammy, the journey into lowriding began over 25 years ago, sparked by a visit to a lowrider show as a young man.

Growing up in a car family, he learned to value the craftsmanship and culture that define lowriding. Frances, too, felt a pull to the lowrider lifestyle but often worked on her cars independently until she met Sammy.

The pair met at a local lowrider show in San Antonio, and from the moment they met, they felt an instant connection. Their shared love for lowriders quickly became a cornerstone of their relationship.

"Our date night is when we get in the garage together," Frances explained. "It's our peace, our sanctuary. We put our ideas together, and then we come up with the masterpieces we're working on."

Their love story, of shared passions, culture, and the community around them, is evident in the cars they create together and the life they've built.
