Loveland area events: Advent art exhibit, craft show, menorah lighting and more

Advent Art

First Christian Church in Loveland and Christos Collective will host an art exhibit centered around the theme of Advent, the four-week season in the Christian calendar dedicated to anticipating the arrival of Jesus.

During the month-long exhibit, which runs Dec. 2-Jan. 2, attendees will have the opportunity to explore a diverse range of artworks that delve into the theme of Advent. The artworks, curated by artists from the Christos Collective, will reflect various interpretations and perspectives on the subject matter.

The church is located at 2000 N. Lincoln Ave. and the hours for the exhibit are 9 a.m-noon on Sundays and 2:15-4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Craft Show

The Larimer County 4-H Foundation ​will hold its ​s​econd annual Craft & Vendor Show​ at 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Dec​. 2​, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, in the Thomas McKee Building at the Ranch Event Complex​,​ 52​60 Arena Circle​.​

The show will include 35 crafters and vendors.

Nature Talk

Wildlife Window columnist Kevin Cook will present a nature talk at 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Loveland Public Library, 300 N. Adams Ave.

In 2023, Cook is focusing on “Alive in Colorado!” with a program on the first Wednesday each month.

The final program in the series will be “Colorado’s Iconic Wildlife,” looking at how some of the state’s wildlife establishes within us a deep esthetic connection between season and place.

​Holiday Eating

​Deanna O’Connell, a UCHealth registered dietician, will offer a class on Holiday Eating for Good Health and Steady Weight at 1-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Loveland Public Library, 300 N. Adams Ave.

Those attending can learn helpful tips and tools to maintain positive health while enjoying the holidays.

The ReadMore book discussion group will meet at 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Loveland Public Library, 300 N. Adams Ave., for a discussion of “The Seed Keeper” by Diane Wilson.

Bird Program

The Foothills Audubon Bird Club will present a program: “Colography, Colorado eco-regions and the birds that depend on them,” at 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Berthoud Public Library, 236 Welch Ave.

Local naturalist Kevin Cook will provide strategies “for finding birds more on purpose and less by luck.”

Refreshments will be served following the program, which is free and open to the public.

FORT COLLINS

Menorah Lighting

A Hanukkah Wonderland with a menorah lighting will take place at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Foothills Mall, 215 E. Foothills Parkway.

The free afternoon of family fun will celebrate the kickoff to Chanukah with the Chabad Jewish Center of Northern Colorado. It will include crafts, games, story book reading, food, a balloon artist, Judah the Macabee photo opportunity and more.

‘The Nutcracker’

Canyon Concert Ballet will present “The Nutcracker” at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Dec. 7-8, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, and 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at the Lincoln Center Performance Hall, 417 W. Magnolia St.

“The Nutcracker” follows a young girl, Clara, through her adventures on Christmas Eve during a party visited by her mysterious Uncle Drosselmeyer. Life-size dolls and toy soldiers create an evening that grows even more fantastical as she falls asleep and witnesses toy soldiers battling mice and rats.

The Fort Collins Symphony will provide the music.
