TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNW) — Low-Income Energy Assistance Program Applications will be accepted starting Monday, Nov. 18. The Kansas Department of Children and Families says applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on March 31, 2025. The program provides a one-time per-year benefit to help qualifying households cover winter heating costs. "Kansas winters can be harsh and unpredictable," said DCF Secretary Laura Howard in a news release. "When temperatures fall, heating bills rise. By opening the LIEAP application period in mid-November, we're hoping families will have the help they need to cover those higher heating bills and stay warm in their homes." Applicants must be at or below 150% of the federal poverty level. The rate of assistance residents receive will depend on household income, the number of people living in the home, the type of residence, the type of heating fuel, and utility rates.
