SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Community Survival Center recently received a significant boost in its mission to fight hunger, thanks to the Ludlow Lodge of Elks 2448. The organization donated $3,500 in grant funding along with 572 pounds of canned food valued at $1,000, marking a combined contribution of $4,500. Exalted Ruler Joyce Grabon and Grant Coordinator Susan Petzold personally delivered the food to the center and assisted in unloading the supplies. "We are extremely grateful to the Ludlow Elks for their thoughtfulness, support, and generosity," said representatives of the center in a statement. The Community Survival Center operates an Emergency Pantry that provides vital food assistance to low-income households in Ludlow, Wilbraham, Hampden, and the Indian Orchard and Sixteen Acres neighborhoods of Springfield. Eligible families can access bagged groceries up to six times a year, while seniors from anywhere in Hampden County are welcome to use the pantry monthly. The center also offers specialized support for families with young children. Participants in the Preschool Program can collect 20 breakfast, lunch, and snack items each month for children who are not yet enrolled in school. For those interested in supporting the center, the pantry is open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and donations are always welcome. The center continues to rely on community contributions and partnerships, like the one with the Ludlow Elks, to fulfill its mission.
