Maconaquah appoints new board member

BUNKER HILL — An incoming Maconaquah School Board member will get a head start. The school board appointed Beth Chaney during a meeting Thursday. Chaney was elected earlier this month and was expected to join the board in January. However, the board had a vacancy due to the resignation of Jennifer Miller who stepped down to take a job with the school district. Board members cannot work for the school corporation. The school board put a call out for applicants to fill the remainder of Miller's term, which goes to the end of this year. Chaney and Ryan Wolf both applied, however Wolf could not make Thursday's interview. Board president Allen Willson said in a message the board interviewed Chaney then voted to appoint her. She will join the board at its Nov. 25 meeting. Oregon remained the unanimous No. 1 team in The Associated Press Top 25 college football poll Sunday after its close call at Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Alabama each jumped up two spots and Georgia returned to the top 10. LSU is unranked for the first time in two years. The unbeaten Ducks are atop the AP Top 25 for the fifth straight week, passing Texas as the No. 1 team for the most polls this season. Mayor Brandon Johnson reversed course Saturday and announced he will not attend a slain cop's funeral after the officer's family told him to stay away. Johnson's office had said Friday he would go to the funeral for Officer Enrique Martinez, despite protests from the police union president who said he would not be welcome. Martinez was shot and killed Monday during a traffic stop in Chatham. ...
