Maconaquah School Board to appoint new member
BUNKER HILL — Maconaquah School Board will interview possible candidates for an open school board seat next week following the resignation of current member Jennifer Miller.
Miller resigned last month after she accepted the treasurer position with Maconaquah School Corporation. One cannot serve on the board and work for the school district.
Miller's resignation comes a little more than two years after she was appointed to the board. She was selected to the board after a former member resigned to take a job with Maconaquah.
Miller was running for her seat in the 2024 General Election. Her name appeared on the ballot Tuesday.
She received the least number of votes among four candidates who ran for two school board seats.
Challengers Beth Chaney and former board member Greg Bevington knocked off incumbents Miller and Dave Noonan.
Had Miller been elected, she would have had to resign from the seat again, and the school board would appoint a new member, according to board President Allen Willson.
In the meantime, the Maconaquah School Board will look to appoint someone to fill the remainder of Miller's term, which goes until the end of the year.
Interviews will be held during a public meeting Nov. 13. The board will vote to appoint a new member during a separate meeting, prior to its regular meeting Nov. 25.
Applications will be accepted through Friday for those interested in serving out Miller's term.
A person must be a registered voter, have lived within the Maconaquah school district for at least one year and be 21 years of age.
Applications materials should be submitted to Allen Willson, School Board President at 7932 S. Strawtown Pike, Bunker Hill, IN 46914. This includes a letter of interest and any supporting documents.
