HINSDALE, IL – An area elementary school board member is running for a seat on the Hinsdale High School District 86 board.

On Thursday, Hinsdale resident Mary Satchwell announced that she plans to file paperwork for the April 1 election.

For eight years, she has served on the Maercker School District 60 board, where she has served as president, among other roles.

During her board tenure, the district has allocated the proceeds from a building projects referendum to modernize learning spaces, engaged in "historically collaborative" union contract talks and oversaw updates to the curriculum, according to a news release.

"I am passionate about education and supporting all students to reach their full potential," Satchwell, a licensed school psychologist, said in the release. "I look forward to the opportunity to serve our community in this role and to use the knowledge and skills I've gained in my professional work, volunteer roles, and eight years of school board service to strengthen the collaborative relationship between the board, administration, staff, students and families in our school district."

Among her community roles, Satchwell has coached AYSO soccer and served as a scout leader and as a lay leader for the youth and family ministries at Christ Lutheran Church in Clarendon Hills.

Satchwell is the board's liaison to the School Association for Special Education in DuPage County. Before working as a school psychologist, Satchwell was a special education teacher in Philadelphia, earning a dual master's degree in elementary education and special education as part of Teach for America.

In April's election, five of District 86's seven board seats are up. Four are for four-year terms, one is for two years. Satchwell said she is seeking a four-year seat.

The other two publicly announced candidates, Liz Mitha and incumbent Jeff Waters , are running for four- and two-year terms respectively.

The filing period for candidates starts Tuesday and lasts through the following Monday.
